CAT D REQUIREMENTS
The Category D test is required to drive any coach with over 16 passenger seats towing a trailer over 750 kg.We provide an intensive training course with the test on the final day.

CAT C1,C1 + E REQUIREMENTS
You can do this test from the age of 18 with an initial CPC qualification. The Category C1 test is required to drive all lorries between 3500 kg & 7500 kg towing a trailer up to 750 kg.

HOW DO I OBTAIN THE CATEGORY C1+E TEST?
The Category C1+E tests are required to drive all lorries between 3500 kg & 7500 kg towing a trailer over 750 kg with total weights not more than 1200 kg.You must have first passed CAT C1.

DRIVER PERIODIC TRAINING
• This is a legal requirement for all Lorry drivers who drive commercially. Any driver who fell into the exemption above must complete 35 hours i.e. 5 days Driver CPC by 10th September 2014. Only on completion of 35 hours will you receive your Driver Qualification Card which lasts for 5 years. We advise that you then complete 1 days Driver CPC per year for the rest of your Driving career to ensure your Driving Qualification Card is updated.
• All new drivers who receive a Driver Qualification Card after passing Module 4 are best to keep themselves updated by completing one days training ( 7 hours) per year so that by the time the Driver Qualification Card expires you will automatically have completed and submitted 35 hours.
The Driver CPC Course is classroom based and is usually held on a Saturday (contact us for availability/dates). On completion of your licence details being uploaded on to the DSA website you will receive an attendance certificate.

Customers who first obtained car licences before 19 January 2013 but on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category B+E (Car and Trailer combinations), & also for all larger vehicles. In addition to the new driving tests, drivers of vehicles which fall within subcategories C1, C1+E, D1 and D1+E also have to meet higher medical standards. Category B entitlement holders may still tow a trailer; however certain restrictions apply.

WHAT’S IN THE
TRAINING?
CPC – HGV / LGV DRIVERS
Initial CPC Module 2 & 4 were introduced on 10/9/2009 for all new drivers who drive commercially. Drivers exempt from Module 2 & 4 are as follows, however all drivers must complete Driver Periodic Training if they use it for hire & reward
• If you passed your lorry test prior to the 10th September 2009.
• If you passed your car test before January 1997 you automatically gained C1
which gives you 'grandfather rights'.
If you don’t fall into any of the categories above then you must complete Modules 2 & 4 to drive commercially. Follow the order to sit the tests below
• You can sit Mods 2 & 4 after you have passed Module 1a, 1b & 3.
• You must pass Mod 2 before you can sit Mod 4.
Training & use of vehicle for test for Mod 4 = £150 + VAT. On completion of Mod 4 will you receive your Driver Qualification Card which lasts for 5 years.
