The Driving Test has 2 components

The Theory Test: A multiple choice examination including a case study and a hazard perception test: both carried out on the same day  in your choice of Test Centre

The Practical Test: The core part of the test which is takes place over approximately 45 minutes. You will be asked to complete one of 5 core manoeuvres outlined below. This is followed by an independent drive

• You need to complete the CBT if you want to ride either a motorcycle or a moped (a moped has a 50cc engine or less and a top speed of 31mph). We offer two CBT Packages. Riders with some experience can opt for a one day intensive course. Beginners can choose a 1 - 4 week course. After attaining your CBT certificate you will be entitled to ride your moped or motorcycle ( AM / A1 ) with L plates for two years. Please note that customers who want to ride larger motorcycles ( A2 / A ) cannot ride these vehicles unaccompanied on L plates. However we offer a FREE CBT Package for these riders with our Progressive and Direct Access Packages.

The Motorcycle Test

The Motorcycle Test consists of 3 components : The Theory Test element which includes a multiple choice test and a hazard perception test: The Practical Test elements which include 2 Modules : The Off Road Test and The On Road Test. All riders must have first been awarded a CBT certificate. More detailed information can be seen below.

The Theory Test

You must have passed your theory test before you book your practical test.Even if you already hold a car licence you will have to complete the theory test to be able to ride a bike.The theory test is made up of two parts, a multiple choice test and a hazard perception test. They are both completed on a computer.Both parts of the test are taken on the same day. The questions in the multiple-choice part and format of the hazard perception part depend on what kind of vehicle you want to drive.

The Multiple Choice Test

You will be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes and the pass mark is 43 out of 50. These questions will be specific to bike riding.

The Hazard Perception Test

This involves watching 14 video clips and identifying the  hazards shown in each. The key is to identify the hazards as early as possible and click at an appropriate time to score the maximum of five points. You need to score 44 out of 75 to pass.You must pass both parts of the test to be allowed to take your practical tests. If you fail either part you will have to take the whole test again.

CAT C1,C1 + E REQUIREMENTS

You can do this test from the age of 18 with an initial CPC qualification. The Cat C1 test is required to drive all lorries between 3500 kg  & 7500 kg towing a  trailer up to 750 kg.We provide 1 or 2 day course with the test on 2nd/3rd  day.

The Cat C1+E tests are required to drive all lorries between 3500 kg & 7500 kg towing a trailer over 750 kg with total weights not more than 1200 kg.You must have first passed Cat C1. We provide 1 or 2 days training with the test on 2nd/3rd  day - on a one to one with our instructor.

DRIVER PERIODIC TRAINING

This is a legal requirement for all Lorry drivers who drive commercially. Any driver who fell into the exemption above must complete 35 hrs i.e. 5 days Driver CPC by 10th September 2014. Only on completion of 35 hrs will you receive your Driver Qualification Card which lasts for 5 years. We advise you to complete 1 day Driver CPC per year for the rest of your career to ensure your Driving Qualification Card is updated.

All new drivers who receive a Driver Qualification Card after passing Module 4 are advised to remain updated by completing 1 days training (7 hours) per year so that by the time the Driver Qualification Card expires they will automatically have completed & submitted 35 hours.

The Driver CPC Course is classroom based & usually held on Saturday (contact us for availability/dates). On completion of your licence details being uploaded to the DSA website you will receive an attendance certificate

CPC – HGV / LGV DRIVERS

Initial CPC Mod 2 & 4 were introduced on 10/09/2009 for all new drivers  to drive commercially. Drivers exempt from Mod 2 & 4 are as follows, however all drivers must complete Driver Periodic Training if they wish to use it for hire & reward (see below)

Customers who first obtained car licences before 19 January 2013 but on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category B+E (Car and Trailer combinations), & also for all larger vehicles. In addition to the new driving tests, drivers of vehicles which fall within subcategories C1, C1+E, D1 and D1+E also have to meet higher medical standards. Category B entitlement holders may still tow a trailer; however certain restrictions apply.
